Care Guide
Caring for Your Maine Coon in Washington
Practical tips from our home cattery for raising a happy, healthy gentle giant in the Pacific Northwest.

Size & growth
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds. Males commonly reach 13–18 lbs and females 8–12 lbs, and they keep growing slowly until about 3–5 years old.
Grooming in the Pacific Northwest
Their long, water-resistant coat suits Washington's damp weather. Brush 2–3 times a week to prevent mats, especially behind the ears, belly and britches, and more often during spring shedding.
Food & water
Big, active cats do best on a high-quality, protein-rich diet. Many Maine Coons love playing with water, so a fountain or wide bowl helps keep them drinking.

Space & play
Choose tall, sturdy cat trees and large litter boxes. Maine Coons are playful, dog-like and often learn to fetch — daily play keeps them happy.
Kids & other pets
Known as gentle giants, Maine Coons are patient and social. Our kittens are raised underfoot with our own kids, so they're used to busy family life.
Your first week home
Start in one quiet room with litter, food, water and a bed. Let your kitten explore the rest of the house gradually, and keep the same food we send home at first.
